The Grass-Leaved Coneflower is a native wildflower that is endemic to the panhandle of northern Florida. It grows in fields and wetlands in moist, sandy soil. It has unusual flowers with dark, bronzy-maroon ray florets. The flowers are on long stalks. It blooms in the spring. The deep red color of the flowers really stands out against the dark green vegetation of the marshes and the pinelands where it grows. It is abundant where it occurs but it only grows in a small area along the gulf coast. Hardy in zones 7-9.
