Arisaema flavum is a fascinating species of flowering plant commonly known as the yellow cobra lily or golden jack-in-the-pulpit. This perennial herbaceous plant belongs to the Araceae family and is native to regions including the Himalayas, Bhutan, Nepal, and parts of India.

As with other members of the genus Arisaema, flavum possesses a unique inflorescence structure. The flower emerges from the ground with a single leaf, which typically has three leaflets. The flower itself consists of a spadix, which is a spike covered with tiny flowers, surrounded by a modified leaf called a spathe. In the case of Arisaema flavum, the spathe is usually a striking yellow color, resembling the hood of a cobra, hence the common name.

This plant prefers growing in shaded areas with moist, well-drained soil, often in woodland environments. It is a popular choice for gardeners interested in unusual and exotic plants due to its distinctive appearance.

Growing Instructions for the Yellow Cobra Lily

The seeds have a period of dormancy. They can be planted outdoors in the fall or winter for spring germination or they can be cold stratified to simulate winter conditions and to break their dormancy at any time of the year.  1. Place the seeds in a plastic bag and seal it. Store the bag in a refrigerator for 3-4 months. 2. The seeds like rich, moist soil. Fill a pot with potting soil. 3. Sow the seeds on the soil and cover them with a thin layer of soil. 4. Water the container. 5. Put the pot in a moist, shady location. 6. Water the pot regularly so that the soil is moist but not wet. The seeds may take up to 4 months to germinate. 7. The seedlings can be transplanted when they are a few inches tall.
