Caesalpinia gilliesii, commonly known as bird of paradise bush or yellow bird of paradise, is a flowering shrub or small tree native to South America, particularly Argentina and Uruguay. It belongs to the Fabaceae family, which is also known as the pea family.

This plant is prized for its striking and exotic-looking flowers, which resemble those of the bird of paradise plant (Strelitzia) but belong to a different genus. The flowers are typically a vibrant yellow with long, protruding stamens and a red or orange spot at the base of each petal. They are borne in clusters at the ends of the branches and bloom from late spring through summer.

In addition to its showy flowers, Poinciana gilliesii has attractive fern-like foliage, with bipinnately compound leaves that give the plant a delicate and airy appearance. The leaves are typically a bluish-green color and provide a nice contrast to the bright yellow flowers.

This plant is commonly grown as an ornamental shrub or small tree in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil and is relatively drought-tolerant once established. It is often used in gardens, parks, and landscapes to add color and tropical flair.
