Growing instructions for the Ruffled Fan Palm
The seeds need to be planted when received or stored in a refrigerator until they are planted. The seeds have a hard seed coat that has to be treated, or scarified, in order for water to enter the seeds so that they can sprout. 1. Scarify the seeds by nicking or sanding the seed coat. The seeds can be sanded with sandpaper, a nail file or an emery board. 2. Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours. 3. The seeds need warm temperatures to germinate. They germinate in temperatures of 75-85 degrees F. Plant the seeds in a container with moist, well-drained soil. Put the container in an area in full sun or light shade. A heating mat can be used to keep the temperature warm. 4. When the seedlings are a few inches tall, they can be transplanted.
