The Winged Bean is a tropical vine that has large, four-winged pods. It has blue-purple, pea-like flowers. It is a perennial but is often grown as an annual. All parts of the plant are edible. It is native to New Guinea. It is widely cultivated in southeastern Asia. Hardy in zones 10-12.

Growing Instructions for the Winged Bean

  1. Soak the seed in water for 24-48 hours. 2. The seeds like moist, well-drained soil. Prepare a mixture of half potting soil and half sand, perlite or vermiculite. Put the soil in a pot.
