Flatwoods Plum is a picturesque small deciduous tree with rough bark. It bears white flowers (often turning pink) in spring. The small purple plums can be used for jelly. It is not thicket forming like Chickasaw Plum and is later blooming. Plant in well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade. Native to well-drained soils in the South.
- Cold stratify the seeds for 60 days in moist sand.
- Sow the seeds in containers with a mixture of potting soil and sand or vermiculite. The
containers should have drainage holes in the bottom.
- Water the seeds and keep the soil moist but not wet.
- When the seedlings are a few inches tall, they can be transplanted outdoors.
