Delonix regia, commonly known as the royal poinciana or flamboyant tree, is a strikingly beautiful deciduous tree native to Madagascar and widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. It is renowned for its spectacular display of large, fiery red or orange-red flowers that blanket the tree in late spring and summer, creating a vivid canopy of color. The tree can grow up to 12 meters tall but is often broader than it is tall, with a wide-spreading, umbrella-like crown that provides excellent shade. Its delicate, fern-like leaves are bipinnate, adding to its ornamental appeal. Delonix regia thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, making it a popular choice for parks, streetscapes, and large gardens. In addition to its visual appeal, it produces long, flat seed pods and is valued for erosion control and nitrogen-fixing abilities in some environments. While it is mainly grown for its stunning appearance, the royal poinciana is also a symbol of tropical elegance and is celebrated as one of the most flamboyant flowering trees in the world.
