Cosmos bipinnatus, commonly known as garden cosmos or Mexican aster, is a fast-growing annual flowering plant native to Mexico and parts of the southwestern United States. Renowned for its delicate, feathery foliage and daisy-like blooms, it produces an abundance of colorful flowers in shades of pink, white, and magenta from summer to fall. The flowers, which sit atop long, slender stems, are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making the plant a favorite in pollinator gardens and wildflower meadows. Cosmos bipinnatus thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and it is exceptionally easy to grow, even in poor soils. It self-seeds readily, allowing it to return year after year in favorable climates. Due to its airy texture, vibrant blooms, and minimal maintenance needs, it is a popular choice for borders, cottage gardens, and informal landscape designs.
